Privacy Policy
This notice explains what personal information HitchGoblin collects through this website, why, and what your rights are. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
Who is responsible for your information
HitchGoblin is operated by Stephen Currah, trading as HitchGoblin, based in the United Kingdom. I am the data controller for the information described here.
You can contact me about anything in this notice at team@hitchgoblin.com.
What this notice covers
This notice covers the hitchgoblin.com website and the launch waitlist. The HitchGoblin calculator app has not yet been released. When it launches, this notice will be updated to cover it before it becomes available.
What I collect, and why
Your email address, if you join the waitlist
The signup form on this site collects one thing: your email address. No name, no phone number, nothing else.
I use it to send you two emails: one when the calculator app is released, and one when the hitch sensor opens for pre-order. Nothing else. No newsletter, no digests, and your address is never sold, rented or shared for anyone else’s marketing.
Lawful basis: your consent. You give it by entering your address and then confirming it by clicking the link in the email that follows. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by emailing me.
Information about how you use my emails
My email provider records whether an email was opened and whether links in it were clicked. I use this only to understand whether messages are arriving and being read, which matters for a new sender. It is not used to build a profile of you or to target you.
Server logs
Like nearly every website, my hosting provider automatically records technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. This is used to keep the site running and secure.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests, specifically keeping the website available and protecting it from abuse.
Cookies and browser storage
This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and there is no analytics profiling of visitors.
If you sign up to the waitlist, a small marker may be stored in your browser so the site remembers not to show you the signup form again. It contains no personal information and never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
The signup form itself is loaded from my email provider’s servers and may set storage necessary for the form to work and to prevent automated abuse.
Who else handles your information
I use two service providers. Both act on my instructions and cannot use your information for their own purposes.
- EmailOctopus — a UK company that stores the waitlist and sends the emails. Your address is held on their systems.
- IONOS — hosts this website and my email.
I may also disclose information if I am legally required to.
Where your information is held
Your email address is stored within the UK and European Economic Area. Where any transfer outside that area occurs through a provider’s infrastructure, it is covered by safeguards approved under UK data protection law.
How long I keep it
Your email address is kept until you unsubscribe, or until twelve months after the sensor pre-order email is sent, whichever comes first. At that point the waitlist has served its purpose and will be deleted.
If you sign up but never confirm, your address is deleted within six months.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask me to give you a copy of the information I hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, delete it, restrict how I use it, or provide it in a portable format. You can also object to my using it, and withdraw your consent at any time.
To exercise any of these, email team@hitchgoblin.com. I will respond within one month. There is no charge.
The quickest way to remove yourself entirely is the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email.
Complaints
If you think I have handled your information badly, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
This site is intended for adults and I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes to this notice
If this notice changes in a way that materially affects you, I will email waitlist members before the change takes effect. Otherwise updates will be posted here with a revised date at the top.
Questions about any of this? Email team@hitchgoblin.com and I’ll answer personally.
